Abstract

The article aims to discuss the work of the Russian composer Dmitri Kourliandski in the light of the concept of difference. In the first part, the composer and the main themes of his aesthetics are shortly introduced, starting from some observations developed by Solomos in 2010 and by the composer himself. The notion of difference is proposed as an aesthetic unifying meta-principle that is also consistent with the historical reference to Constructivism. This notion is verified in the analysis of dasein 1&2, a piece from 2018. The piece is first investigated starting from the score: in this way, the permutative construction that underlies the two symmetrical parts of the piece clearly stands out. Then, a third part of the work (III), not present in the score but accessible on the web together with the other twos, is discussed in the light of the previously presented features. From this discussion, a description in semiotic terms – based on the notion of enunciation – of the intricate communication network developed around dasein is proposed. Finally, the figure of the Conductor is taken into account, as the latter emerges in the three parts as the pivot of a continuously displaced enunciative shift.
